Welcome Dr. Karen Badger, Associate Dean for Career and Exploratory Advising and Assistant Provost for Undergraduate Education

Dear Colleagues:

Dr. Karen Badger, College of Social WorkPlease join me in welcoming Dr. Karen Badger to her new, expanded role in the Division of Undergraduate Education. Starting December 1 she will serve as Associate Dean for Career and Exploratory Advising and as Assistant Provost.

As Associate Dean she will be responsible for leadership in Undergraduate Studies and the Stuckert Career Center, helping to develop and assess programs that facilitate students who making their transition to college as they explore academic and career options. As Assistant Provost, she will help lead campus conversations to evaluate and strengthen advising and career services for all undergraduate students. In her new role she will also coordinate campus curriculum processes by leading Undergraduate Council and the UK Core Education Committee.

Dr. Badger brings considerable administrative and professional experience to this role; in addition to her contributions to the College of Social Work, she managed a medical division of social work in a large university hospital and has over 25 years of social work experience (for which she was recognized as Social Worker of the Year by the National Association of Social Worker-Ohio Region VI).  In addition to her expertise in the psychosocial adjustment of burn survivors, her research interests include undergraduate curricula and assessment. Her contributions to teaching have been recognized through the UK Teacher Who Made a Difference Award and the UK Alumni Association Great Teacher Award (2013).

She has developed considerable knowledge of UK’s campus culture, having served on a variety of campus-wide committees, including the University Assessment Council, the Institutional Effectiveness Advisory group, the Graduation Writing Requirement Task Force, the Women’s Leadership and Career Development Task Force, and the UK Strategic Planning Committee. She has chaired the External Reviews of the Division of Undergraduate Education (2012) and the Stuckert Career Center (2013).
