This just in from Sarita Gustely, president of the University of Kentucky’s International Student Council:
UK’s International Student Council (ISC) is hosting a student panel titled “Bridge the Differences: A Dialogue” that will explore how UK can help international student organizations bridge differences and find solutions to the various issues that international students face on UK’s campus.
The event will be held on Monday, November 17 at 3:30 p.m. in the Niles Gallery of the Lucille Little Fine Arts Library during International Education Week. All students, faculty and staff are invited to join this free event; refreshments will be served.
ISC Vice President Omer Tariq said, “Although the UK International Center works closely with ISC, other international organizations don’t receive that same acknowledgement. They also don’t have a platform where they can share their opinions or concerns. This panel will give them an opportunity to show students and faculty how they contribute to diversity on campus.”
Representatives from eight different international student organizations on campus will comprise the panel with Elizabeth Leibach, director of International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS), moderating the panel discussion.
“Right now, it’s important for the international community to talk about issues that they are facing within our UK community,” said Leibach. “Our goal is to make it less different but more of the same, as far as welcoming international students at UK. The UK International Center hopes that this event will form a more communicative path between students and campus organizations, like UK Student Government, Resident Student Association, and UK’s Office for Institutional Diversity, to give a few examples.”
Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you soon,
President, International Student Council
