Dr. Ben Withers, Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education, and the UK Advising Network invites you to a campus-wide forum on the role and impact of academic advising and student support services. The University’s new Strategic Plan for 2014-2020, still in the review and revision stages, includes a section in Goal 1 (“Create a Vibrant Undergraduate Learning Community”) focused on academic advising and student support services: “Achieve National Excellence in Student Support.” You can download the May 23 draft of Goal 1 (.pdf file) here – see especially Action 3 on pages 7-8.
The forum will be held on Monday, June 16 from 1 to 4:30 PM in the White Hall Classroom Building. Academic advising and student support services representatives from across campus will be working in small groups, brainstorming ideas for the first four tactics listed under Action 3. Results of the forum will be shared with Dr. Withers, the Advising Network, and the authors of Strategic Plan Goal 1.
The goals of the forum are:
- To discuss what a particular strategic plan tactic might mean for our individual and collective operations.
- To provide multiple perspectives on each tactic so that we may understand how other campus units interact with our students.
- To think about how we might use the strategic plan tactics to inform our unit’s approach to student support.
- To generate initial ideas for collaborative support efforts involving multiple campus offices.
Please indicate if you will attend by completing a brief survey today at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/RVWKVFN. You can choose your preferred topic to discuss, and prior to the forum you will also then be sent additional information about your topic.
We look forward to seeing you there!
