Opportunities for Students Interested in Undergraduate Research at UK

The Office of Undergraduate Research has two exciting NEW ways for students to learn about our program.  Students interested in getting involved in research are encouraged to attend at least one of the following:

Information Sessions

The Office of Undergraduate Research will host information sessions throughout the Fall semester for students interested in becoming involved in undergraduate research.  Students who are unsure of which session they should attend are welcome to contact us.

Drop-in Hours

New this semester, members of our Student Outreach Team will be available from 3-5 every Tuesday and Wednesday in room 219 Funkhouser.  This is an opportunity for students to speak with their peers one-on-one about how to get involved in undergraduate research.

  • Posters-at-the-Capitol
    Abstract submission deadline: October 16, 2013
    Event: February 27, 2014
    Location: State Capitol Building, Frankfort, KY
    Transportation and registration fees for students provided – this is a time to educate Kentucky state legislators of the importance of UK students’ undergraduate research and scholarly work. The Governor, members of the General Assembly, and representatives from students’ hometowns engage directly with some of our best undergraduate scholars.

  • Oswald Awards
    Submission deadline: October 31, 2014
    Awards: $350 for first place and $200 for second place in each of 7 categories: Biological Sciences, Design (architecture, landscape architecture, interior design, etc.), Fine Arts (film, music, painting, sculpture, video, etc.), Humanities (Creative), Humanities (Critical Research), Physical and Engineering Sciences, Social Sciences.
    Awards luncheon: December 10, 2013
    Location: TBD

NOTE:  There will be NO Showcase of Undergraduate Scholars this year.  Students are encouraged to present at NCUR instead of at the Showcase, noting the earlier abstract submission deadline.
