The President’s Sustainability Advisory Committee, the Tracy Farmer Institute for Sustainability and the Environment, and the Student Sustainability Council are partnering to host a full day of showcasing sustainability at the University of Kentucky.
The events will take place on Wednesday October 9th in the UK Student Center’s third floor and will include:
- Big Blue Goes Green: A showcase of Sustainability-related programs from across campus – (Grand Ballroom) 10:00 am-3:00 pm.
- Film Every Seventh Person – (Room 363 UK Student Center) noon-1 pm.
Film screening will be followed by a discussion.
- Keynote address from Dr. Arnim Wiek, Arizona State University’s School of Sustainability – (Grand Ballroom) 6:30 pm.
Dr. Wiek received his Ph.D. at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in 2005 and is currently an Assistant Professor in ASU’s School of Sustainability. He serves on the boards of the International Sustainable Development Research Society and the International Sustainability Conferences. Wiek has conducted sustainability research on urban development, land use conflicts and resource management in several European countries, Canada and Sri Lanka, and has researched sustainable governance of nanotechnology and nuclear power as well. His methodological research has focused on the question of how research between scientists and non-academic partners from government, business and the civil society is initiated, facilitated and institutionalized to support sustainability transitions.
- The 3rd Annual Tracy Farmer Institute for Sustainability and the Environment Research Showcase, Poster Competition and Reception– (Small Ballroom) 4:30pm-6:00pm.
The Research Showcase highlights accomplishments of UK’s faculty and students who conduct interdisciplinary research in environmental and sustainability science and policy. Prizes will be awarded for top posters.
