UK by the Numbers

UK logoWith thanks to Linda Perry who gathered most of these key statistics about UK for the UK Alumni Association‘s Summer 2013 Kentucky Alumni magazine – and to the UK IRPE website for the additional info:

  • 28,928 students enrolled at UK in Fall 2012
  • 190 students enrolled in October 1866 at A&M University (an institutional ancestor of UK) located at the Henry Clay estate and the adjoining Woodlands estate
  • 1,683 instructional faculty in fall 2012 out of 12,189 full-time employees working at UK (2,284 full-time faculty and librarians) with 390 part-time faculty members and 7,532 part-time staff, and over 800 full-time extension employees living and working in all of Kentucky’s 120 counties
  • 2,190 teaching, research and graduate assistantships for the 2012-13 academic year
  • 884 UK students studied abroad for credit during the 2011-12 academic year
  • 422 veterans and their dependents studying at UK through the GI Bill
  • 72% of the total student population in Fall 2012 were undergraduates – nearly two out of three degrees (64%) awarded in 2010-11 were at the bachelor’s level
  • 18% of the overall student headcount in Fall 2012 were minority and international students
  • One in four (27%) UK students came from out of state, mostly from states bordering Kentucky.
  • 74.4% of undergraduate students lived off campus or commuted in Fall 2012
  • 33.1% of first-time, first-year females joined sororities at UK in Fall 2012
  • 9.9% of first-time, first-year men joined fraternities at UK in Fall 2012
  • 1,961 on-campus job interviews held at the Stuckert Career Center in the 2011-2012 academic year
  • 5,314 alumnae/i in fiscal year 2011-12 participated in Stuckert Career Center career counseling appointments, events and programs
  • 7.1 million contacts made by UK Cooperative Extension Service in fiscal year 2012
  • UK planned to spend $335.0 million for Instruction; $278.3 million for Research, and $38.7 million for Student Services in FY2012-13. UK researchers brought in $274.1 million in outside funding for grants and contracts in FY 2011-12
