This fall Enrollment Management at the University of Kentucky will be opening a Transfer Center, which will be located in Room 11 of the Funkhouser Building. Through its contributions to transfer admissions and course equivalencies, the Transfer Center will enhance the transfer process for all involved.
Academic advising for transfer students will remain the responsibility of Undergraduate Studies and the undergraduate colleges at UK. While working with all colleges to connect students with academic advisors, faculty, and staff, the transfer Center staff will continue to collaborate with an rely on Undergraduate Studies, which provides transfer student services for prospective and current transfer students. Through their partnership with Enrollment Management, Undergraduate Studies academic advisors serve as the advising contact and resource not only for EM colleagues but also for students and colleagues at each KCTCS institution.
Sara Price, UK’s full-time transfer advisor, coordinates transfer advising in Undergraduate Studies and provides academic advising for prospective transfer students from Kentucky, including those at Bluegrass Community and Technical College (BCTC), and for students from across the country who are considering UK. She also coordinates BCTCblue+, a joint program between UK and BCTC. Sara supports transfer students at the University in part by advising Undergraduate Studies students and offering guidance to our association for transfer students. In addition to representing the University statewide on issues affecting transfer students (see, for example, the KnowHow2Transfer web site), Sara provides training and information to colleagues across campus and at other institutions.
Along with US and UK colleagues, Sara teaches UK 201, Academic Orientation for Transfers. This course, co-sponsored by Undergraduate Education and Student Affairs, is a one-credit-hour, pass-fail course designed to assist transfer students in adjusting to the academic life at the University of Kentucky. Sara holds regular office hours at both BCTC’s Cooper campus and in Miller Hall, home of Undergraduate Studies on the UK campus.
